METAL MIKE Summer Practice Tips & The Loudest Summer Camp In The World!
Guitar playing is a Winter sport. I say that, as it is easy to stay indoors while the evenings are long and the weather is cold. Once the warm months arrive, many players trade their instruments for beach flip flops. I, however always used the Summer months as opportunities to put in extra work while my guitar playing friends were at the beach partying.
For whatever reason, I always had guitar playing friends who were more advanced than me and who played guitar way longer that I did. And, in turn, I did anything I could to catch up and try to surpass them. And, the warm days were my secret weapon. I used these days to catch up and get better.
When school finished and everyone went their separate ways for the Summer break, I went straight to the basement ready to play the guitar all day long. Once school started many of my friends were no longer better guitarists.

When I was growing up, learning how to play the guitar while studying with your guitar heroes was pretty much unheard of. The closest you got to learning from George Lynch was to buy a VHS tape and hope your VCR doesn't break down while you rewind a single lick 800 times. So from the vault of "I wish I had this when I was a kid" comes my Metal Heroes Summer Camp. I wanted to put together a full-on heavy metal Summer Camp that did one thing only: teach, motivate and inspire the young of today through the music we love - metal. We are still a small boutique camp, even though we are in our 6th year. The idea was never to be the biggest camp. It's for the few who love music enough to make the trip, to study and to spend time with others just like them. Stories of kids taking Dairy Queen jobs so they can attend camp are inspiring. During the camp we have professional industry guests, jams, songwriting sessions, specialized workshops in guitar maintenance, double bass drumming and behind the scenes of the biz. These are just examples. This year we will be diving deeper into composing original material and will talk in depth about personal branding in today's world. We also make sure the campers are comfortable. The lodging include air conditioned chalets with private bathrooms and all 3 meals per day are restauramt quality.
