KANSAS on The Big Interview with Dan Rather
Rock Trailblazers KANSAS discuss maintaining the band's identity in this Exclusive First-Look and All-New Episode of THE BIG INTERVIEW, airing TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30 at 9pE/6pP
Los Angeles, CA (October 26, 2018) - Drummer Phil Ehart, guitarist Rich Williams, and lead vocalist Ronnie Platt - members of influential rock band KANSAS - sit down with Dan Rather in an all-new episode of The Big Interview on Tuesday, October 30 at 9pE/6pP.
As part of the evening, AXS TV's "Docs That Rock" block presents the 2015 documentary Kansas: Miracles Out Of Nowhere, detailing the band's rise from small town obscurity to touring the world with Queen and taking the charts by storm with some of rock's most legendary hits, immediately following The Big Interview at 10pE/7pP.
Forty years after the release of their genre-defining hit album "Point of Know Return," the band joins Rather to discuss their improbable journey as an unknown band from the middle of nowhere to one of rock's most enduring acts. In this exclusive first-look, Ehart, Williams, and Platt discuss how the band has been able to maintain its identity as various musicians joined and left throughout the years.
Ehart explains, "As members started to change, Richard and I would always kinda sit there and look at each other, and go, 'Is this gonna keep going? We're like the last guys standing.' But then we came to the realization that Kansas is not about one person. Kansas is about the music."
During the interview, the band also recalls how they successfully navigated-and survived-the cutthroat music industry despite having no business experience; reflect on the band's classical influences; reveal why they don't have any regrets about giving away their publishing rights; and share humorous anecdotes about their plan to lure fans to concerts with free beer, and the time a jealous Steven Tyler unsuccessfully tried to sabotage their set. Watch it here.
